Ann Arbor, MI - April 1, 2004 - Brave New Works presents its third
annual contemporary Classical music festival, The Return of Are You
Brave?, to be held April 9-14, 2001.
Festival Overview
Concert No. 1 - April 9, 2001 - Northside Community Church
Featuring the works of Forrest Pierce, Jacqueline Jeeyoung Kim, Bruce
Adolphe Brian Ferneyhough, and Nikolai Kapustin with Guest Artist Winton
Choi, piano.
Concert No. 2 - April 11, 2001 - Kerrytown Concert House
Featuring the works of Gabriela Frank, Walter Buczynski, David Schober,
Carter Pann, Stuart Sankey, and Mark Kirschenmann.
Concert No. 3 - April 12, 2001 - Michigan League
Featuring the works of Forrest Pierce, Erik Santos, Evan Chambers, and
Alfred Schnittke
Concert No. 4 - April 13, 2001 - Ann arbor Public Library, Multi purpose
room
Featuring the works of Tom Schnauber, Heitor Villa-Lobos, Daniel
Roumain, Edison Denisov, and Bright Sheng.
Concert No. 5 - April 14, 2001 - Concordia College
"Stuart Sankey Memorial Concert"
All concerts are at 8 pm. With the exception of Concert No. 2 [$5,
limited seating], all concerts are free and open to the public.
Donations of $5 or higher to support the music and musicians will be
appreciated and accepted.
Founded by Christopher Froh, Chris Younghoon Kim, and Eli Shapiro in
1997, Brave New Works is dedicated to fostering the creation and
performance of music by contemporary composers across the entire
aesthetic spectrum. Since their inaugural season, BNW has commissioned
works by Tom Schauber, Carter Pann, and Forrest Pierce, and has
programmed music by Igor Stravinsky, Luciano Berio, Toru Takemitsu, John
Cage, Alberto Ginastera, Terry Riley, Mark Kirschenman, Pat Long, David
Schober, Joseph Klein, Pavel Haas, Karen P. Thomas, Stephen Eddins, John
Berners, Tom Schnauber, and Erik Santos. Guest artists have included
Winston Choi, Matthew Ardizzone and Ensemble Kylix.
