Local contemporary ensemble Brave New Works presents "The Number One" at
the Performance Network on Wednesday, April 3rd at 8:00 p.m.
Continuing its "Numbers Up" series by teaming up with the Performance
Network, Brave New Works presents "The Number One," a concert of solo
performances by BNW members Jennifer Goltz, soprano, Amy Ley, harp,
Emily Perryman, flute, Maria Sampen, violin, and Andrea Yun, cello.
This concert of contemporary classical music features works inspired by
the wind and the air, the mysteries of Greek mythology, Quinhai folk
tunes, and a Polish composerÍs love for the violin. Selections on the
program include East Wind by Shulamit Ran, Bright ShengÍs Seven Tunes
Heard in China, Sonata per violino solo by Grazyna Bacewicz, The Crowne
of Ariadne by R. Murray Schafer and the World Premiere of Andrew MeadÍs
Let the Air Circulate.
Founded in 1997 by Christopher Froh, Chris Younghoon Kim and Eli
Shapiro, Brave New Works is an Ann Arbor-based performing organization
dedicated to the work of composers across the entire aesthetic spectrum.
With the mission to foster new music through creation and performance
by working with and on behalf of contemporary composers, Brave New Works
also seeks to expand the audience for new music through performances,
workshops and collaborations with the arts.
The Performance Network is located at 120 East Huron in Ann Arbor.
